  • 2 pounds baking potatoes peeled and quartered
  • 3 cloves garlic peeled, or to taste (Optional)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Place peeled and quartered potatoes and garlic (if using) in a large pot; cover with water.
  2. Bring to a boil and cook until potatoes are tender, about 15–20 minutes.
  3. Drain well and return potatoes to the pot.
  4. Add milk and butter. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve warm.
