Ingredients

  • 6 cups diced cabbage
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice

Equipment

  • Food processor or grater (for cabbage and carrot)
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Refrigerator

Method

  1. Finely dice the cabbage, carrot, and onion. You can shred them first in a food processor, then chop smaller for a soft texture.
  2. In a bowl, add sugar, salt, black pepper, mayonnaise, milk, buttermilk, vinegar, and lemon juice.
  3. Whisk until the dressing is smooth and slightly runny, not thick.
  4. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and mix well until evenly coated.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours so the flavors blend and mellow.
  6. Stir once before serving and enjoy chilled.
