Make Lemon Sugar
- Add the granulated sugar to a plate.
- Rub the lemon zest into the sugar using your fingers until the mixture becomes fragrant and lightly yellow.
Prepare the Martini
- Moisten the rim of a chilled martini glass with the juiced lemon.
- Turn the glass upside down and twist it into the lemon sugar to coat the rim.
- Set the prepared glass aside.
- Add vodka, Cointreau (or triple sec), lemon juice, simple syrup, and a handful of ice into a cocktail shaker.
- Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds or until the mixture is very cold.
- Strain the cocktail into the prepared martini glass.
- Serve immediately.
